Hi, I’m Heather. I’ve been a software engineer since 2006, but am keenly aware of how intimidating it can be to dip your toes into the waters of computer programming. I was lucky enough to have an amazing group of gals acting as my rock during college while learning to program. However, not everyone is so fortunate.
Therefore, I am creating this site as a place to both share knowledge and hopefully make more people feel comfortable jumping into what might otherwise feel like the murky depths of software engineering (development). Welcome all!
Part of my job as a software engineer (developer) is to test my changes. However, if I do that testing manually, then neither I, or any other developer who modifies that code after me benefits from the tests I performed. Instead, if I take a little extra time and add unit tests as I go, then I need not worry about that code’s testing in the future. Rather, I would then only have to worry about testing my current changes. Therefore, doing so helps keep work progressing in a fast, consistent manner…and still allows me to deliver with a high degree of confidence in my changes.
